They need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps

My grandparents had mental illness, and no running water. They turned out fine, without some socialist “psychologist”paid for by the taxpayers. What’s wrong with these people? They need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Stop feeling sorry for yourself and entitled to everything. And move to the city if you want running water.

Talk about a recipe for repressed feelings

The majority are skeptical or in total denial. I suspect most are male and –to really go out on a limb here –were raised according to traditional roles:men don’t cry because it’s a sign of weakness and men are supposed to provide the solutions, not seek them from others. They were taught to bear more than their share of responsibility (be the provider and defender) but to keep a stiff upper lip at all times. Talk about a recipe for repressed feelings that could easily lead to mental illness. Thank goodness that modern parents are more enlightened in their attitudes about gender roles.
