My cynicism

Here’s something of interest and perhaps will explain,in part,my cynicism where the psych industry is concerned.. At one time,a wife who spoke up to her husband was diagnosed,by experts in the field,as having a mental illness and she was committed to an institution. In my lifetime, deaf children were classified as developmentally challenged and were sent to an institution. When I began university, the experts had officially diagnosed homosexuality as a mental illness. So,throughout the ages, the psych industry has made some egregious errors so I have a hard time believing most of what these ‘experts’have to say. Think about it –as recently as the early 1970s,homosexuality made it into the official list of mental disorders. In my lifetime, deaf children were diagnosed as being developmentally challenged. In my lifetime,Down Syndrome children were called Mongolian Idiots and were cast aside and treated as second-class citizens. Before my lifetime, outspoken women were either sent to convents or mental institutions –all with the approval of experts, mind you. If I seem to regard the psych industry with a jaundiced eye,it’s because it has been so wrong so often. Oh,and as for big pharma –that industry really loves the psych industry.

‘get out of jail free’card

No doubt there are people out there with massive mental issues that we,or I,will never understand or experience. These are people that require help –full or part time. The pro’s have, for now,the best tools to assist this. Depression will no doubt be the leader on this as,it seems to be all we really hear about. On the other side –there are the people that use it to their advantage as a reason/excuse for doing and acting on things. If they use it and have it in their back pocket as a reason to avoid accountability –not a mental issue as they have an awareness. On a lot of stories from here and elsewhere –it always seems like a ‘get out of jail free’card. 52 Billion a year. Unreal. I am not a expert but,the experts must be pulling what little of their hair is out from this.
